It’s not my latest book but I wrote No-one Ever Has Sex on Christmas Day which is very festive!
What was the idea behind it?
It’s a lot to do with the craziness of a family Christmas. The things we do, the stress we put ourselves under and how we have to remember what really matters. Which is just being together! I also had a lot of fun writing about a school nativity play!
What is your favourite Christmas tradition?
We have friends over every Christmas Eve morning for mulled wine and scones with cream and jam. How this has evolved I have no idea but it is just the loveliest thing and I love eating guilt free scones because hey – it’s Christmas.
What is your favourite Christmas film?
NATIVITY – I absolutely love it. Those songs and those kids! Martin Freeman is perfect and Mr Poppy is hilarious. I went to see the stage show last year and it made me cry and laugh in equal measure.
What is the one book that you would like to see wrapped up under the Christmas tree for yourself this year?
A biography of Nora Ephron if there is one. She is my hero.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
I got married at Christmas and we had our first dance to Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas Is You. I have to dance when I hear that song.
What’s your best Christmas tipple and snack?
I love late night wine with cheese and biscuits. It’s so naughty but so nice.
Do you ever suffer from self-doubt? How do you overcome it (if you do?!)?
Yes – always. Particularly half way through a book. Every writer seems to hate their book half way through! But you have to believe. You have no other option because if you don’t nobody else will. Also I sometimes go on Amazon and read my good reviews. That reminds me of why I should believe.
What’s your poison – high heels or flats?
I love high heels but at my age the need to be comfy!!! So at the moment my favourite are these racy little numbers from Clarks with a decent heel and a cushioned sole!! I can dance all night in these so ideal for Christmas parties!!!
